Politics
- Christians should not
publicly endorse political candidates or parties. Everything should be done
to keep our personal political convictions private.
- Having some of the Republican
party's image, or the reputation of politics itself, rub off on Christianity
is the last thing the Church needs. The Church already has enough work on
its hands when it comes to presenting a proper image. Association with conservative
groups will only alienate the more liberal from the Good News.
- Christianity's agenda
is spiritual, not political or social. (What does tax policy have to do with
the gospel of Christ???)
- The Scriptures never
call for any establishment of a Christian country or theocracy, except for
Israel.
- If Christians try to
legislate morality or impose our values by waging a culture war, it only scares
and alienates non-Christians and makes them defensive. The Christian will
then be seen as the sinner's political enemy, instead of the compassionate
friend. Remember Y'shua's example.
- Even if we succeed in
changing our country's laws or its culture, the change will be superficial.
Our country can only truly change if it is spiritually changed, from inside-out,
by the Good News.
- Y'shua told the Church
that it will be persecuted. He told us to rejoice when we are persecuted,
and to pray for our persecutors (not to stand up for our rights or threaten
legal action). We were once persecuted, but in many ways, we have become the
persecutors. When we allow ourselves to be persecuted, we associate ourselves
with the victims, oppressed and poor, who are naturally more open to the Good
News. History shows that the persecution of the Church is a powerful evangelisation
tool.
