We need to examine the culture
that we're living in if we want to be successful in the 21st century. Here are
some characteristics we need to be aware of:
Constant ChangeWe live in a culture that is constantly changing. Technologically, we are moving faster than ever. In a couple years, your computer will be obsolete. In 1976, it was cool to listen to Disco. In 1980, it wasn't. In 1987, you could listen to cheesy Rock ballads and say words like "Rad!" By 1992, no way. What is "cool" and culturally acceptable one year, may be completely "uncool" the next. If the Church is going to engage its culture, it needs to keep up with the trends and styles. The Church has to have its pulse on the culture, and change with it. I'm not saying the Church has to follow every fad, but if your church's worship band is still playing those cheesy Rock-ballad praise songs, then it's definitely time for a change!
